I Swear, the Essentials Hoodie and Tracksuit Weren’t Supposed to Take Over My Closet — But They Did

How One Hoodie Turned Into My Entire Wardrobe

Alright, so here’s the deal. I never meant to be the guy who wears the same thing every other day. But if you saw me in the past six months, there’s a good chance I was in either my Essentials Hoodie or my Essentials Tracksuit. Sometimes both. And honestly? I’m not even mad.

I first bought the hoodie last fall, kind of on a whim. My older sweatshirts were falling apart and I wanted something better for the colder months. I’d heard about the Fear of God Essentials line before — mostly from friends who wouldn’t stop talking about it — so I figured, why not?

The second I put it on, I got it. Like, it actually made sense why people were into this stuff. The fit was oversized but still clean, and the material felt like a warm hug that cost me slightly more than I’m comfortable admitting. Worth it, though.

The Tracksuit Was an Accident (Kinda)

After a few weeks of wearing the Essentials Hoodie nonstop, I ended up grabbing the joggers. That turned into the whole Essentials Tracksuit without much thought. It just made mornings easier — no matching required, no second-guessing.

I threw it on to go to the store one weekend and caught my reflection in a window and thought, “Okay, I look decent today.” Which was rare, because I put zero effort into that outfit. That’s when I realized the real magic of these pieces: they do the work for you.

Now I’ve got two full sets — one in tan and one in dark grey. I rotate them like a cartoon character. Add clean sneakers and maybe a cap, and I’m out the door.

Here’s What Makes It Worth the Hype

1. It’s Actually Comfortable

Not fake comfy. Like, “I could nap in this on a plane” is comfortable. The Essentials Hoodie is thick enough to feel durable, but it doesn’t weigh me down. And the Essentials Tracksuit joggers? I’ve worn them on 5-hour drives and long-haul flights. No regrets.

2. You Don’t Have to Overthink Your Fit

I’m not a fashion guy. I like what I like, and I want getting dressed to take 5 minutes. These pieces make that possible. Hoodie, joggers, sneakers. Done.

3. People Compliment You (Even When You’re in Loungewear)

This surprised me. I’ve had strangers ask, “Where’d you get that hoodie?” or “Is that the Essentials set?” Which is wild because, like, it’s just a sweatshirt and pants. But it hits differently. Clean lines, solid colors, and just enough branding to feel premium.

Not Everything’s Perfect, Though

Let me keep it real:

  • The sizing is weird. It runs big. I had to exchange my first order because I looked like I was drowning in it.
  • It’s not cheap. You’re definitely paying for the name and quality. But honestly, if you wear it like I do, the cost-per-wear makes sense.
  • Getting your hands on it isn’t always easy. Drops sell out fast. I missed the cream color twice before I finally got one.

How I Wear Mine (Because Yes, I Plan Around It Now)

  • Weekdays: Hoodie, jeans, Vans. Boom.
  • Saturday errands: Full Essentials Tracksuit, fresh sneakers, headphones in.
  • Cold days: Hoodie layered under my puffer.
  • Travel days: Tracksuit and a backpack. Effortless.

If You’re on the Fence…

I’d say start with the hoodie. It’s the gateway piece. Once you try it, you’ll understand why I (and apparently half the people on TikTok) keep going back for more. The Essentials Hoodie has somehow replaced my old favorite zip-up and never looked back. And if you’re feeling bold? Get the full Essentials Tracksuit.

Just don’t blame me if you end up living in it.
